Three checks first
echo $ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL # should be https://api.opusvip.dev, without /v1
echo $ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN # should be a key starting with sk-
claude -p "hello" # a reply means it works On Windows PowerShell, use $env:ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL to inspect a variable. If you set the variables in the env field of ~/.claude/settings.json, echo in the terminal won't show them. That's expected; go by the result of claude -p "hello".
Error reference
| Symptom | Cause and fix |
|---|---|
| Request rejected: client not supported | OpusVIP only accepts the official Claude Code CLI. Use the official Claude Code and keep it up to date; requests from other clients, SDKs and curl are rejected. |
| Still asked to sign in to Anthropic | Make sure the environment variables are active in the current terminal. On a fresh install you can skip onboarding with hasCompletedOnboarding, shown below. |
| 401 / authentication failed | The key is incomplete or has been deleted; copy it again from the console. If you previously signed in to claude.ai, run /logout first. If ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is set, unset it. |
| 404 / path not found | ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL has an extra path such as /v1. Use only https://api.opusvip.dev. |
| Insufficient balance | Your credits have run out. Top up in the console with Stripe (card, Alipay or WeChat Pay): $0.15 buys 100 credits, and the minimum is $1.50 (1,000 credits). Failed requests are never billed. |
| Connection timeout or TLS error | Check HTTPS_PROXY, HTTP_PROXY, ALL_PROXY and your proxy software's rules, and make sure nothing blocks or misroutes api.opusvip.dev. |
| Settings don't take effect on Windows | setx only affects new windows. Close all terminals and IDEs and reopen them, or use settings.json instead; see the IDE docs. |
| Haiku 5.5 requests in the log | Claude Code uses Haiku for light background tasks such as generating session titles. They are billed at Haiku 5.5 list prices. |
