OpusVIP accepts requests only from the official Claude Code. Use the extension or plugin published by Anthropic, not a third-party client.
How it works
An IDE usually doesn't inherit variables you export in a terminal, especially when you launch it from a desktop icon. The most reliable fix is to put the variables in the env field of Claude Code's own config file, ~/.claude/settings.json (on Windows, %USERPROFILE%\.claude\settings.json), so they apply however Claude Code is launched:
{
"env": {
"ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL": "https://api.opusvip.dev",
"ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN": "sk-your-key"
}
} Create the key on the console token page. If the file already has other settings, merge in only the env entries rather than overwriting the file.
VS Code
- Install the CLI in a terminal first (
npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code), then install Anthropic's official Claude Code extension from the Marketplace. - Add the
settings.jsonentries shown above. - Quit VS Code completely and reopen it, then open the Claude Code panel and send a message.
- Check the usage log in the console to confirm the request appears.
JetBrains
- Install the CLI first here too, then install the official Claude Code plugin from the IDE's plugin marketplace.
- Add the
settings.jsonentries, then restart the IDE. - You can also run
claudein the IDE's built-in terminal; it behaves the same as a standalone terminal.
FAQ
- The IDE still asks me to sign in to Anthropic: make sure
settings.jsonis valid JSON and restart the IDE. If that doesn't help, see thehasCompletedOnboardingsetting in Troubleshooting. - 401: the key is incomplete or has been deleted. If
ANTHROPIC_API_KEYis set, unset it. setxhas no effect on Windows:setxonly affects new processes. The simplest fix issettings.json.
